ESD moisture-barrier vacuum bags protect their contents with multi-layers of film that control the moisture vapor transmission rate (MVTR). Surface mount devices must be kept dry between the time of manufacture and the point of reflow soldering. The lower the MVTR, the more effective the bag prevents water vapor from being transmitted. Lower MVTR foil bags meet IPC/JEDEC J-STD-033 requirements.

Moisture-barrier bags also feature excellent puncture resistance. The puncture strength or resistance captures the maximum weight the static shield can withstand before puncturing. Puncture strength is measured in pounds.
